Ooh La La

Have you been seeing all the amazing cards made with watercolor backgrounds out there? They are so gorgeous, and captivating. Although watercolor paper backgrounds themselves are not new,  the ways they are being stretched to new limits by paper artists, is innovative and exhilarating!

To try my hand at creating something new I decided to just let my playfulness loose and do whatever came to mind as I pulled supplies from my drawers. I settled on a monochromatic background in an ombre, that seemed like a beautiful backdrop for a floral stamp set. I started to grab white embossing powder, but opted for a glitter infused powder of pink, white, and gold instead. The result is slightly shabby, and super gorgeous.

I used the textured side of my watercolor paper for this card, a choice I wouldn't ordinarily make, but I was interested to see how it would look, in the name of experimentation and adventure if nothing else! I love the lines it added to my background, but the real surprise was the "resist" effect it had on the stamped images...perfectly distressed right?!!!

Another trick I tried  was to add fine clear glitter to the back of my SRM sticker in hopes of adding shimmer without any glitter shed, in person it is a tad shimmery but not overly so, and it doesn't come off! I count that as a winning new clear sticker technique for just a little shine. As far as getting really glittery, I'll add it on top next time.

Take a tour of instagram, and pinterest and I can promise you will find a treasure of inspiration for watercolor backgrounds, done in every way imaginable, I'm happy with my twist on this trend!

Spring Treat bags

Hi!!! Are you feeling the warmth of spring beckoning you to bask in pastel colors like I am? I love spring colors all year, and when the birds start singing, and butterflies start fluttering around the backyard I can't help but let all things spring take over!

You probably know by now how much I love making, giving, and wrapping gifts and these new SRM patterned treat bags are divine!!!

I have taken on a quest to use my older stamp sets, especially the ones that have gathered a little dust so to speak, and I have found this rewarding in multiple ways. Recapturing your love for what you already own is a little gift in itself!  I simply stamped these little skunks in gray and trimmed them out, I popped them onto a layered tag filled with sequins, and several little embellishments for an updated look.

The twine circles, and printed ribbon, are just added layers of fun, I do so love lots of dimension on my projects! Add a little gift, like candy or maybe some scented oils as a sugar free alternative.

I intend to let spring take over my home, my heart, and my wardrobe! Bring on the pastels!!!

Tickles You Pink

I love my "vintage" stamp sets the way one loves the perfect pair of cozy broken in jeans, or a favorite lip gloss that you stock up on just in case! I think it is so fun and challenging to grab a favorite set from days gone by and breath new life into it with all the joy and fervor you had for it when you first chose to make it yours.

I have edited my collection of stamp sets in the past year from several cabinets full to down to take up just a few shelves, I kept only my favorites or most recent acquisitions. That has really helped in rediscovering my love for ink, paper, and stamps.

To update this set from Stampin' Up! called tickled pink ( I know adorable) I used copics to color the flamingo and trimmed it up, mimicking all the newer sets that have matching dies. Adding a few pops of highlighting with an SRM white gel pen, and of course sequins are a great way to add an updated sparkle. And by trimming the card layers with SRM sticker stitches I  easily added a sewn look in a snap!

I know buying stamps is an investment, and many are incredibly versatile, while others are more suitable for specific use, rotating them and maybe dusting off an older set may keep you from getting bored with what you already own.

In my personal quest to minimize clutter and truly love the things I buy or choose to keep, actually using these "vintage" sets fits right into my goals. As a bonus I am refreshed and feel happily challenged to find new ways to see my supplies, and that is a win win for the crafty and clutter free side of me!

Multicolor Jute Gift box

I know everyone loves getting a gift, I also loving giving gifts, it's one of my favorite things to do. The new colorful jute twine is quickly becoming my crafting "go to" product and as you can see I love each color equally.
I wrapped a kraft box  with patterned paper and topped it with a 4" doily  embellished with a flag border from we've got your border birthday and wrapped it with all four colors of jute twine tied at the top. I placed itty bitty pom-poms along the twine and added a punched piece tag made with take 2 stickers by the dozen birthday

This really is such a festive and cheerful gift wrap that anyone can make. Be sure to keep an eye out for lots of fun ways to use the jute twine in your crafting, making, and of course gift wrapping!

The Entryway redo for zero cash!

I recently decided my "entryway" that may be to grand a word for a tiny stretch of wall to the right of my door as I walk inside.... was looking shabby and neglected. It became a catchall for puppy toys, mail, keys, and  such. Functional sure. Warm, and inviting? Not lately.

The previous table was enjoying a second life, it was originally a filing cabinet, the drawer long ago fallen apart, I added a shelf and basket and a little jewelry box with a silver tray to hold keys and candles, I replaced it with a console table I purchased years ago for my daughter to use as a slim makeup table in her room, it was serving as a tv stand in the guest room, and now a new life by the front door.

I tend to use decor that will fit in any room, and move things around from time to time.....not always my family's favorite past time I'll admit, but shopping from your own space is not only a great way to give things a new purpose, and save a ton of cash, but it also challenges you to look at your things in a new and exciting light! Even the not so perfect items!

I posted the above photo on instagram, Facebook, and a couple of groups, and the response was very encouraging, although the vote was to switch the watering can to the opposite side and not to have both greenery elements stacked one on top of the other, I noticed it immediately after I posted the photo, and I agreed with the masses!

The switch is a better look! I pulled every single item from other areas in my home. of course I had to do a bit of rearranging in the places I "shopped" from, but that's pretty easy to do. As Easter ushers in I will undoubtedly change the items on or under the table  adding bunnies, eggs, and nests, how I love spring!

The real trick is not to let things get too stagnant, your home decor shouldn't fall into the "background noise" category, it should be calm, or bold, but always in focus. I was definitely guilty of letting this entryway that greets me and my guests every single day, fall into neglect and it became stale, blah, and not at all "me"

How do you keep your home fresh, and do you shop from your house too??? I would love to know!

Painted Flowers

Why not start the week out with flowers? I certainly can't think of anything better. I imagine it must be wonderful to work near a flower market, where fresh flowers are abundant and you could have a new bouquet each day! Until that day arrives for me I will have to stamp my own :)

I enjoyed coloring and cutting, blending, and shading these flowers. I embossed my greeting in gold, I used one of the big happy stamps from SRM and added a sticker from SRM below. I love the simple yet elegant combination.

How can this week be anything but wonderful when it starts with flowers?!!!

Hello There

It has been such a very long time since I employed a sketch as my inspiration kick off, and how I have missed it! I had forgotten how much fun it is to be guided and challenged by the sketch, and my all time favorite sketch blog is mojo Monday
While watching the Crown on Netflix and pulling out several stamp sets and marveling at the stunning lack of a cactus in all my collection ( how is that possible) I just layered papers and patterns and textures until I found a delicious mix I was happy with. Sometimes the process of pulling together the elements is as rewarding as the finished product, kind of like decorating a room or making a meal!

The act of creating is raw and romantic, it opens your mind and your heart, it's meant to be fun and free, like all the joys of life, don't take it too seriously, don't extract the happiness from it by being too comparative or competitive. I speak to myself mostly, I had lost my reason for creating for a long time, and I'm getting back to "me" one day at a time.
Knit, bake, sew, read, stamp, paint, eat, love, and be you... you are beautiful, you inspire me daily, I love you all so much for that!!!

Champagne gummy bears

I used to do this little thing on facebook where I named three things I loved that day, it could have been a lipstick color or a new paper line, but I had fun sharing my favorites, I'm not sure why I stopped, it was fun and opened up an easy comfortable line of conversation and I miss that.

In that spirit I hope you will love my favorites today! I have been working at the lakeridge winery for 25 years doing the monthly events there, and the southern white wine is simply divine! Sweet, subtle, smooth, and easy to drink even for those who don't like wine!  I love to read and these champagne gummy bears my daughter got me for Valentines day are soooooo scrumptious such a great pair while relaxing and reading!

Roses are always a good idea. Sweet aroma, soft velvety petals, and they make any room in the home feel luxurious!

I have an love for doors that borders on obsession! They offer entry to hidden spaces, kind of the way reading a story does, and like a wonderful book, this doorway is magical!!!

Taking A Bite Out Of The Big Apple

New York City Is A Feast For The Eyes!

Manhattan does not disappoint, the architecture, the people, and oh the shop windows! We walked miles and miles each day of my recent birthday trip to New York and enjoyed every step everything but the flights and flights of stairs in and out of the subway!
We did treat ourselves to the magical world famous Magnolia bakery banana pudding, and even got cake on my birthday, where the entire staff and shop full of customers sang to me while banging on baking sheets, a moment I will never forget and always cherish!

I stopped many times to snap a quick photo of the beautiful creations like these mini cakes found at the grand central market.  One of my favorite places!!! I would love to get these for Valentines day!!!

I just adore the sprinkle rimmed cupcakes, such a simple design that anyone can recreate and feel successful at!

These cinnamon and chocolate twisted pretzels have my heart in knots! I didn't try them, but they look divine!

I couldn't leave the city without having a it's not a rainbow bagel, but it is everything!!!!

This ruben from Rue 57 is the absolute best I have ever had! I did not eat clean my whole visit, I regret nothing!!!! The bread in NYC is magical, crusty, and soft, and the flavor is... well it's perfect!

Delicious turkey burger, but that corn salad from Rue 57 is worth the trip on it's own!

No matter what, do not miss the Magnolia bakery on your next visit, I'm from the south and I know banana pudding, and honey nothing can beat this little pot of sweet smooth confection!

be mine! be mine!

I'm always in love with nontraditional color combos like this coral and mint Valentine's card, LOVE!!!! I had a little quiet time in the studio tonight, and before making my card I made a list of all the things I love, and I have decided to pursue those things with all of my heart. What greater love is there than the pure love of life?!!! Dear intentional living be mine!

One of the things in my studio that I love is my stack of SRM stickers, like the Valentine Border sticker used here. I have also been reaching for my glimmer mist more and more these days to add paint drops. Super fun to drop and splatter paint!
I hope you will visit more and more in the days, and weeks ahead as I plan to share more of the things I love, paper is only a small area of my overall passion, and it's time to shine a spotlight on all of my loves!

What are your loves???

Porchside Pretty

With the absence of holiday topiaries and poinsettias my front entryway has been bare and icky sad and gray! I needed to add some green and some much needed life to greet me cheerfully as I walk in... or as I leave for the day's tasks!  I have never tried hydrangeas before even though they are one of my favorites, fingers crossed I can keep it healthy and vibrant.

Don't you love shopping for plants? I get all giddy walking through rows and rows of waxy leaves and velvety petals, I have a hard time choosing what to pick up.....I always want to buy everything. Living in Florida means dry hot days so I do have to keep that in mind.

My home is my nest, my sanctuary, and my place of unequalled joy, live plants add so much brightness and calm to a space ...indoors and out. I love the simple elegant beauty of my little porch, the perfect view as I walk up to my front door, like a little hug!

Be mine sweets

Is there anything more fun than making treat containers? I love "3D" papercrafting the most! To me it feels like magic to transform flat sheets of paper into something useful or happy, filled with candy or gifts!

I added glitter to these SRM stickers by the dozen with an added sticker from a valentine border, as well as a simple but sparkling gold sequin. The french fry boxes were cut with a sizzix die, and are easily assembled, I may just have to make a dozen or so, I bet my staff would love these!!
Have a great weekend, I hope you get to do all the things you love best! XOXO Shantaie

Love is Golden

My newest love is ginger tea, it's steeped ginger lemon and a touch of honey, it's warmth and slight zip are so spirit lifting, as well as healthy for my body and soul. So happy to be spending time in my studio too, I am feeling more like myself and refreshed with each hour I spend creating. Oh happy day!

I pulled out a basket of watercolor paints and just kind of swiped a few shades of coral, pink and red onto watercolor paper, the hardest part for me is always waiting for paint to dry..... some impatient  time later I added a row of stenciled hearts and a dash of gold glitter and waiting impatiently again.....
After that I began adding layers of embellishments and goodies, and had oh so much fun, sipping tea and glueing on pretty things!

This is the beginning of my season of hearts, I hope I get more free time to create with such a warm heart and free spirit!
Have a wonderful love filled day!XOXO Shantaie

Sweet Heart Love

I cut two sheets of Valentine tags, backgrounds, and hearts. To be exact. hearts, hearts and more hearts all cut out with my Silhouette earlier today. I knew it would brighten my day to have a counter covered in such sweet cuts! I placed them all along my countertop and made a little bowl of confetti with the negative pieces. So adorable!

How easily todays card came together with pretty papers from the baby mine collection, and a few lovely embellishments added to my new stockpile of Valentine hearts. Sigh, love is in the air! Puppy love around here, with our new little Lilly prancing and cuddling, and chewing on everything in sight including me!

She is a little monster, but oh how sweet she is!

I plan to use each and every one of my cuts, as my theme for Valentine's Day this year is "love letters" and I hope to send them out and spread some love!!!!

Happy Hello Friend

I spent the better part of last year decluttering, organizing, and reducing. I started not to any real end goal, minimalism seemed too extreme, I mean I am the more is MORE girl! LOL

I continue to fine tune what living with less means to me, but as far as my cards, layouts, and papercrafting is concerned...more is still perfect! I have pared down my crafty stash, although another big purge is planned for next month, my favorites are staying! SRM everything, my silhouette, Verve stamps, and Stampin'Up! inks and papers!!!!

I inked up a sizzix stamp set and matching dies that has been ignored for a long time, it really is so cute, I had fun just stamping and cutting flowers by the dozens, and I really should use my stamps more, I mean I LOVE to stamp!!!! I used the SRM shape die and sticker to add a sweet sentiment. And that adorable bow is made with a brand new product called mint jute twine it reminds me of a sweet dessert, it's color is just delicious!!!!

Hello Friend! thanks for stopping in, I hope you are have a happy day! I have this sweet puppy  sitting at my feet begging to play! (could that be any happier?) :) Have a wonderful day y'all! XOXO Shantaie
