Blue Skies

Oh how time is zipping by like miles on the highway during a road trip!  ..... that is if the trip is going well....... In a few short weeks we will be taking our annual journey North to run our family candy business, and although our journey is not quite this colorful it is a fun trip!

I originally made this card for the August issue of Cricut magazine last summer and I'm so excited to finally share it with you, its one of my favorite quirky cards!

Stair step cards are so much fun to make and to display, and this one mimics a mountain road, and a bight and happy trip!

I hope you have a great day, I wish you happy travels wherever you go, even if its just to the craft store to get glitter!   :)

Be A Flamingo

What a fun saying! I love flamingos { I'm pretty stinkin' fond of pigeons too :)}

Today I'm up on the SRM blog with a fun storage solution for all those outdoor {or indoor} party and picnic wares. I used pink Vinyl and the Silhouette to add a fun sentiment to my paper goods caddie!

keep all your napkins, plates and cutlery in one easy to carry container. Its pretty enough to sit right on the dessert table or stow it away, I love the idea of being able to have all of my party or snacktime goods in one place ready to go!

Hop over to the SRM blog to see the post and get all the details! Happy crafting!

Watercolor Gelatos Hello!

Hello friends, how are you today? Can we talk? I mean really have an open honest discussion  about how easily we artsy types switch gears? This is a real problem for the people in my circle, they tend to think I'm fickle or downright flighty...but I'm not, not at all.

I truly wake up each day feeling like a new version of myself which I'm pretty certain is true. After all we don't grow, age, and learn instantly, it happens like a tiny evolution each and every day-I digress I'm getting too deep here! On the lighter side, what I mean is that everyday I change my mind, my mood, my ideas. {I konw that sounds fickle, but keep reading} Today my favorite color is blue, my mood is blue.Tomorrow it will be green again, some days I want to papercraft and some days I want to be a pastry chef. :) keep reading give me a chance to explain!   :)

I love life and all it has to offer, this great need to create, connect, and consume all life has to offer, is as natural to me as breathing. Some things are steady and concrete like my favorite number is 3 and ice coffee is a daily ritual, I am loyal and honest, I value equality above all else......but the rest of me? is all up in the air ......all up to how I feel. I used to feel lost or guilty for not being as "solid" or 'tethered' as other people, but I have made peace with my gypsy soul, and I realize that is how I'm hardwired. People who settle into routines are hardwired that way, and the world needs both to be whole and interesting!  don't you think?

I'm lucky to work with such great companies like SRM Stickers who allow me to try new things and be playful!

I love the mix of watercolored paper and sequins, the sewn glassine bag embellished with a fancy sentiment and the metallic twine wrapped around a ribbon, its so eclectic and still so soft!

I love that being a crafty girl allows me an escape, an outlet, a way in which I can explore all types of things! I know you all love that too! So order some of these cute glassine bags and some stickers {because they are gorgeous} and make some pretties!

Bloom, Grow, and Shine

Making cards and planning parties are my favorite ways to create, I can't throw a party everyday {despite what Lilly tells me} Cards however are a little easier to create daily.....like miniature canvases, little collections of beautiful objects fused together to make a one entity.

Boy that sounds overly romantic doesn't it? I'm digging in deep for a Monday morning, but I really do love to gather and arrange, its peaceful and rewarding.

So I'm a wee bit  TOTALLY in love with Dahlia flowers and I didn't even know I was! That is not until I stared creating with the newest digital stamp set from Crafty secrets called Dalhia I printed a cut some out with the Silhouette and decided to look at Dahlias on Pinterest  to see the coloring and shades etc. Swoon, these are some gorgeous flowers in every shade, size and wow are they fabulous!

I just have a few pink copics, and not every shade I needed, so I came up with this fun idea to color the flowers and swipe them every so lightly with white chalk paint! The effect is wispy and soft, and really different. New favorite technique check

I added a bit of yellow flocking to the centers to make them all soft and dreamy. {remember that stuff} yeah..... I have tons of it!

I spotted, splattered, and splashed glimmer mist all over the card in marshmallow, pink taffy and iridescent gold {my favorite}  a really reasonable ribbon bow, some SRM twine in buttercream!

{don't you love when products have delicious names like buttercream?} I'm a sucker for genius marketing and beautiful names get me every time! I just connect when something has a fun or fab name!

Thanks for popping in, thanks for looking, reading, and in general for spending your precious time to visit here! I love what I do, and I love that you do too! XOXO Shantaie

Mt. Dora Blueberry Festival roadtrip getaway

I had the chance to visit the first annual Mt.Dora Blueberry festival this weekend, and thought I would share a few of my favorite moments.

I have to say blueberries are one of my absolute favorite fruits, and this event had it all, smoothies, spritzers, cookies, pies, wines, salsas, and jams. Packed with artists, and specialty food vendors it was a fun {albeit really warm} hot day!

I got to visit my old shop and to my delight it has been transformed into a sweet little bakery! They were warm and welcoming, and eager to talk about my time in the store, and we shared stories of the history of the building. The blueberry cupcake with blueberry infused butter cream frosting piled on top was scrumptious!

A walk through Mt.Dora reveals little secret hidden gardens tucked beyond the shops and are as charming as an old world English garden!

I got up close and personal with this little guy when I helped him across the street to save him from all the Saturday afternoon traffic, what a cutie!

just yummy! Blueberry lemon infused water or a pineapple honey and grapefruit number! both were delicious and refreshing!

Sugar rimmed spritzer! oh so beautiful and yummy! Totally need to make these for mothers day!

Love Buggin' (a mini tutorial)

Happy Saturday friends! I was so looking forward to a lazy "sleep in" kind of Saturday the kind that is so rare and precious in my life as I work weekends....but what does my {traitor} brain do? It wakes me at 6:13 AM not a slow yawny groggy awake.... nope the lightening bolt to heart, all systems go kind of awake. I should punish it by depriving it of caffeine but dang it,it will hurt me more that it will hurt her. Us, it...oh you know what I mean.

I tiptoed to the craftroom and started playing with stickers, you know those big adorable stickers that come in the crafting kits? I almost never use them, but I always want to.....
I thought it would be fun to show you how to make a whole card super quick and ridiculously easy with them and to think beyond the obvious too! Let me show you what I did!

I started with a sheet of fun stickers from an older Echo park kit called Country drive, its full of cute, and bright papers, stickers, and "project life" style cuts. I chose to use the yellow bug and cut out the windshield with a craft knife.

Now that its open , I cut a standard 4.25"X5.5" card base of white cardstock and placed my car at the lower section of the card but not adhering it fro the hood up, I placed two lady bugs one in the driver and one slightly lower in the passenger side to mimic the idea of one bug being a little taller :) { I'm short...really short} so that one is me!

Googly eyes....well because they just make the world a better place all on their own. You can't deny this fact, they are just silly and creepy, and fun!

See what I mean? This would not be the same without googly eyes!

Now just add more stickers, and embellish if you feel like it, or leave it and tada you're done! Seriously I may have to make one sticker creation a week just because this was so much fun! {not because I have years worth of sticker sheets that I can't part with " because they are useful" but still don't ever use} ....no that's not it at all! *wink*

You know me well enough to know that I can't ever stop, so I decorated the inside of the card, and added stitching, glitter and staples! I mean it was still the fastest card I've ever made in the history of .......ever!

What do you think? Are you going to dust off those sticker sheets?
I would love to start a new movement of crafties made with all those adorable forgotten stickers! Its your turn~ GO!!!!

Hello Sunshine!

There are some things in life that you can never get enough of.

  1. fun, friends, or music
  2. ice coffee { or chocolate}
  3. love
  4. and time in the studio!
I have been spending copious amounts of time in my studio this week, mostly just being surrounded by my supplies, marveling at the potential they all hold and less time actually creating. I know ........not all that productive, but I can think more openly when I'm staring at a wall of ribbon and glitter in 100 colors, shapes, and sizes.

I've made a few things, including this cute camping scene, compete with a little banner holding birdie!

I love stamping onto patterned paper, I don;t use this technique nearly often enough! The trees and tent are by Jane's Doodles called Happy Camper  from SRM . This stamp set is really cute, and can be used in lots of different ways. I do love it when a set can be used over and over!  I used fringe scissors to make the grass and the sentiment is from the "Hello" sticker sheet from SRM as well as that scrumptious twine

As a family we have been dealing with a real set back and we are all emotionally wounded. We had a fire at our business last Sunday and my daughter was injured { she will be okay} and that is all that matters. My heart is filled with gratitude and happiness that my girls are alright, material objects were burned to ash, but our family is whole. Being in my craft studio brings me peace, hope, and the quiet time to reflect. More than ever, the people around me are the most important aspect of my life!

If creating makes you happy, is an artistic or emotional release, or fills your life with joy be sure to carve out a little time and make some happy! XOXO~ Shantaie

Pink Ark full of fun

I have known for a month or maybe a little longer that I'm going to hae a new niece soon, it's so exciting! So today pink is queen! I love this ark full of baby animals by Jane's Doodles you can find this adorable set at SRM and spend a little quality time coloring those precious little babes!

I pulled out all the pinks I had.A stack of markers, copics, and pencils all piled together on my desk seriously put me in the best mood! I even ended up painting my nails pink afterwards!

I added rows of waves and belted them with a seam binding ribbon, some pretty twine in blossom. I stamped one of the sentiments from the set onto a bitty tag and topped it with a chipboard bow! a paper button is tucked just behind the bow, its soft and sweet!

I'm still loving the reverse splatter embossing, so I did add a little over my colored image, and those clouds were actually the last addition, I fussed over them for 2 hours before deciding to tape them down permanently...why did I fret so much? I love them! I might make a whole gift set with this card and stamp set as my inspiration, I bet my Sister In law will love that! The elephant and the giraffe are my favorites...oh they are just so dang cute! Okay okay the hippo and the monkey are huggable as well.... yeah they are all darling!

So I don't know where this theme is going to go, but I kinda want to go shopping for for baby gifts now! :)

Fruit tasting party

A few months ago my girl turned 20 she is a fun, unique, and  interesting girl! We came up with a cool party idea called a "fruit cocktail" it was a big hit and maybe you may want to throw one this summer!

The basic idea:
Gather several types of fruit from the everyday to the exotic and have a fruit tasting, cut pieces for guests to taste and compare (similar to a beer tasting!) This was really fun,we all discovered fruits that we had never tried, and found new favorites and a few that were best left to our imagination! :)

What Else to serve?
We made cheese and meat platters and several appetizer plates to fill up on, we played music in the background and mixed up two signature cocktails, one for the adults and one for the under 21's

We tasted, we danced, we mingled, and we shared stories, had cake and opened gifts. It was truly the perfect blend of an adult party and the last hurrah of the teen years! Print out a sheet so guests can keep a log of what they did or din't love, what was sweet, sour or grainy! A fruit cocktail is one sweet party idea! :)

Me and my beautiful beautiful girls!

I love these two, they make life so much fun! My moon and my stars! :)
