Watercolor Lace Overlay (and SRM design team reveal)

I have to gush about my excitement before I implode! I may be a notoriously great secret keeper, but this is one secret that I have been dying to spill! I am pleased to announce that I will be part of the 2014-2015 SRM creative team!
*{Imagine me skipping through fields of daisies, hugging rolls of vinyl, and singing silly made up design team limericks in the shower} yup that's the kind of happy dance I do!

Okay now that I'm done bubbling over.... lets talk about the card! I started with a watercolor paper base and stamped flowers randomly in black ink. Good stuff right? I swirled my aquapainter in ink and colored in and around the flowers adding darker colors after each area dried. Still good stuff right? Not so much....

To my dismay the black stamped images stole the spotlight from the careful and pretty watercoloring I had just spent an hour on... what is a girl to do?

I opted to soften the harsh black lines and bold colors with a layer of lace. I then cut out a couple of accent flowers and leaves to add a gentle pop on top of my overlay. a few sequins and a label sticker and a thank you sentiment from SRM are the perfect balance to the flower and bow.
The next time you do a bit of watercoloring try a lace overlay for a soft wispy effect!

I love the look of the overlay acting as s gentle filter. I barely notice the harsh black stamped images, and really love all the color and softness it allows to show through. If you give this technique a try, let me know I would love to see what you make!
