More Life, with less Effort...oh and a cartridge giveaway!

When I was a little girl I would watch soap operas with my aunt, and at the time I wholeheartedly expected real grown up life to mirror episodes of General Hospital! What I discovered is that there is a stunning lack of designer clothing in my closet, hunky doctors, outlandish drama, and no return of a long lost twin sister who recently recovered from a 20 year case of amnesia. {LOL}
There is however an abundance of endless housework, appointment's and errands, checkbooks to balance, bills arriving in the mail, work { to pay the aforementioned bills } mundane drama, and the broken nail that always shows up to ruin your manicure! Now before you make up your mind that I have stomped and crushed my rose colored glasses, that photo of a bowl of cherries is there for a reason!

I also discovered that real grown up life is more or less what you make of it. When I start to get overwhelmed and stressed, I force myself to take a step back and regroup. Life is a long string of moments, tasks, and trials, joys, losses, and gains. I don't always have control over what comes my way, but I do get to decide how I handle what comes my way. Sometimes my energy is best spent on the little things that make my life feel perfect even if for just a moment. Rose colored glasses intact!

Some days what I really want is more life, more living in the moment with less effort, just letting the simple things shine. When I let go of all the pressures, deadlines, paperwork, to do lists, and feelings of impending doom if I don't get it all done, and just breath some honest to goodness real world rights itself again. I then have more energy to tackle all those pesky chores, and with a smile on my face! I still wish I had a closet filled with designer clothes, other than that I'm actually pretty glad that my life in no way shape or form reads like a soap opera..its much more like a comedy... or an instruction manual ....  with a missing page *wink* either way you just have to laugh!

Hi Shantaie,
Great giveaway!! I love this cart, I have one but would love to win one for DIL as she is just starting her collection.
As for what I do when I'm feeling blue. I was given this great advice from a very wise woman. "Take your multi-vitamin with lots of water and bake something!!"
Great advice, sometimes the mind feels off when the body is missing something, usually Iron or Vit D. Dehydration will also affect how you feel emotionally and mentally. And baking something to share with your family (who doesn't love home-baked), makes you feel like you accomplished something special and usually brings you appreciation, smiles and hugs!!
Works for me every time, I think my mom is very wise!! Have a great day!!

I have been a subscriber for a few weeks, and enjoy your blog. The cart looks fun, new to Cricut still, so did not know it existed! Thanks for the chance to win. Blessings...GG.

Hi Shantaie,

I have to agree with all you said about getting back on track. Of course, scrapbooking & enjoying terrific websites like yours are always a pick-me-up. When I do get overwhelmed, I try to think of others who are struggling more than I do & remember to thank God for all the wonderful blessings he has granted me.

I would love to win your Ribbons & Rosettes cartridge. It sounds & looks wonderful. I am fairly new to the Cricut world & only have a couple of cartridges at this point.

Thank you for the opportunity to enter your drawing.

This may sound silly, but when life is about to drive me nuts, I step back, head outdoors, fill up a little pool we have for our ducks and stand back and watch! It is hard to not smile when the ducks are having so much fun with 3 inches of water. You would think they just won the lottery or something. What if it is winter? They still love water, just give it to them in a smaller container inside their warm house.

I have been looking at Ribbons & would be awesome to win one! Thank you so much for sharing your extra one.

I already own this cart, so please don't include me in the drawing, but I just wanted to say that your post today is wonderful. When I feel blue, I love to turn on some music. I might take a little drive to a favorite thinking spot, or just sit in my yard and take a few deep breaths of fresh air. Oh, and I take a little extra Vitamin D too! Love your blog!

My readjusting space is my craft room. I am a teacher and that is the sanctuary away from "have to" things. I don't always even make things, I may go in and move stuff around or just mess with things. I always feel more grounded when I'm done. The next best thing is a nice long bath. Have a great weekend!

When I am feeling down my favorite thing is to ask my kids for a hug. I had a strange upbringing and so just having them close enough makes my day. I am Running mom of 2 on Cricut board.

Amazing giveaway! This is at the top of my wish list! When things get crazy, I start saying "no" and then make time to read a book with my husband or just enjoy spending time with him. Hugs! :)

When I'm stressed, I take a long hot shower with the door locked... That way I can't hear my husband or kids for a short time :) Then when I come out, I'm refreshed and ready to play again!
I'd love to win this cartridge. My sister is making most of her wedding decorations, and this is something she's had her eye on. Thanks for your generous giveaway!
I am "geemommy" on Cricut forums.

Thank you for the terrific post, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it :) When I get a bit stressed, I try to focus on the good things, or how it could have been worse, I'm a "cup is half full" (as apposed to half empty) type of person so tend to look in the sunny side of life. If all else fails I give my children a hug and pull out some scrapbooks to peruse. The happy moments are there and creating the pages was a joy so it's always a pick-me-up to look at the books.

Hi! Glad to hear others feel that way too!!! I always TRY to stay positive and remember that sometimes things in life that are not as important can be temporarily set aside. Will my life be altered if my house is not cleaned this week???? NO!!!! But my child's view of me will be altered if I don't make it to all the sports and school events. I just try to make my priorities and let some of the other stuff slide. No sense in being stressed!!!! (usually works but definitely not all the time!)
Thanks so much for the giveaway! Winning this cart (which I have been wanting since it came out) would be a good step in making my life much happier!!!!! *wink, wink*
Thanks again and stay stress-free as possible!!!!!!

When I am down, I play with my cat. She purrs and I feel so much better. A purr can take away some pain, most tears and sadness.
I do not have this lovely cart. Thanks for the chance to get it.

I have been looking at this cartridge-it must be a good if you like it! When things go a little crazy I relax with a good book or movie and a nice glass of wine!

Great giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win! When life gets off track there are a couple things I do: Hug my kids - for some reason it seems that a big ol' squeeze and sloppy kiss from your kids can make any worry go away; Take a bath - just let it all melt away into the hot water; Craft - Mod Podge and ink can cure a lot of things :-)

Cindy said...

Music is my go to when I'm not feeling so great about life. And if that doesn't help I try to sneak some time to play in my craft room :-) Thanks for this great giveaway!

Hi, I love to listen to music as I craft, I tend to do a better job. I just discovered Pandora radio on the internet and have had that playing all day today while I crafted. You are so generous to be giving away such a nice cartridge for nothing. Thanks for the opporitunity to win!

This is a cartridge I have been wanting. Thanks for a chance to win one. When I am stressed, I drop to my knees and look up and pray.

Then I go bake cookies or brownies so I can eat them in my scraproom when I scrap.

Thanks for the chance to win This is an awesome cart that I've been wanting to get. When I'm really feeling down a take a look around and realize things could always be a lot worse than they are and thank God for all the blessings in my life.

Hi Shantaie:

Thanks for the chance to win this cartridge. You are so thoughtful.

Great post! It was very inspiring. The comments by others are great too. I normally don't read all of the comments people leave on someone elses blog. It makes me feel like I am eavesdropping or peeking at their mail, but I had to read these. I think I will probably be back in a few days to see what others say.

To get myself out of a funk I say my ABC's. I start with A and think of something that starts with a that is a blessing, that I am thankful for, or that is worth keeping in my life. After you take the time to think about 26 things that are good, I am usually back on track and where I need to be in my life.

Thanks for the chance to win this cart. It is one I would love to get my hands on. More importantly though, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. It helped me get back on track today.

If things are getting rough and I feel myself falling into a dark place, I usually spend time with my dog Lulu and listen to some music, or watch a movie to escape whatever is going's nice to have some time where my brain doesn't have to think of the issues/problems at hand for that couple hours and it usually leaves me ready to get back to it and tackle the issues/problems.

Thanks so much for the chance to win this cart! Been wanting it since it came out!!

What a great giveaway. Thanks for the chance to win.
When I'm feeling blue and maybe a little sorry for myself, I do something for someone else. Bake some cookies for a neighbor, take a friend to lunch, make some cards for my sister to send to church friends that are shut ins. It all helps me to put my life into perspective. I am blessed.

Cheryl W. said...

How generous to offer this great cart as a giveaway! When I'm feeling down, I find the best thing is to help someone else. If that means making them a few cards, all the better! It always makes me feel better to add a little sunshine to someone else's life.

I love your post - made me smile! So I guess that kinda answers the question - reading posts like this puts me in a good mood. I would like to say having a nice drink sitting by the pool but I have no pool nor can I enjoy that 'drink' (on meds right now), lol. So besides reading upbeat and crafty blogs, I pray and remember how much I have to be thankful for - it could be so much worse.
Thank you for the chance to win this cart. I've come so close to getting it but never did so I'd love a chance to 'play' with it!

I know this may sound silly, but when I get super stressed, I hug my husband...I just hold onto him for a few minutes and I feel like I can breathe again. It works just as good with my kids, but they're grown and don't live close enough for daily hugs!

Hi Shantaie,
I love your honesty about life and how normal I feel now. Sometimes my life is crazy like that too. What I do is tell my husband that I need some "me time". When I get some me time, I like to watch a movie, eat something sweet or just seat at my craft table and create something beautiful.
When I do that, I feel like my batteries are charged to start all over again.

I find that singing some of the old hymns like How Great Thou Art brings tears of joy. What wonderful joy God has brought into my life.

When I am physically hurting (I have FM), my cat seems to know and will curl up beside me or on my lap and purr. I find that very comforting.

Thank you for the chance to win this cart. This is one that I do not have and can in-vision fun beautiful projects with it.

Awesome giveaway, thank you.

For me when the stress of life gets to be too much, I go sit on the deck and just watch nature for a few minutes (or hours lol). I also think of all that I'm thankful for, and realize in the grand scope of things, my problems are small.

Jane said...

Thanks for the chance to win this cart. When life is crazy, I follow this little piece of advice from my mom, "Have a space,( a made bed a neatly folded pile of laundry, etc.) that is in order and when things go crazy, go to that space." It is funny how just even having a neat corner on my desk will help put it all back in perspective.

Funny you ask this question. I just went through one of those whirlwind couple of weeks so I still have the experience fresh on my mind. What I do to put my world back on its axis is quiet myself, yes my mouth, my mind and my environment. I have to take a few hours or even a day sometime to tune things out to put those things that "really" require my time and attention up front and tackle them and work on the rest after that. It works for me. It just a time I try to really direct my focus and what I find is that my life's not so bad-far from perfect, but not so bad either. I've grown to embrace the bumps in my life as they usually come up again later where I am better able to tackle them. (sorry, I'm rambling, k-bye)!

Too funny....General Hospital. To get back "on track" I generally need one on one time w/ MYSELF!! A good book or magazine on the swing under a shade tree is perfect for me!!!
Thanks for the chance at an awesome give a way, this cart is HIGH on my wish list!

Thanks for an awesome post. When I was younger, I used to pout really I think, but with age I started realizing how much time I was wasting feeling blue. So now-- Wow, my answer must seem a bit strange....but when I'm feeling down and dig in and start cleaning! I clean until I,m not thinking about anything but the cleaning, suddenly I feel so accomplished! I've worked out my stress, I have a clean house and by time I'm done I will have the radio on and be singing a song. THEN, I got sit on my back patio which is my retreat and just enjoy the fresh air and the beauty.
Thanks Shantaie

When I need to get back on track I just look out my front window to the little green space where the deer come and think how lucky I am to be in the middle of a big city and still see Gods wonders. That, and the fact that I am still above ground. :)

I like to call my bestie when I'm feeling low. I tease her that she must take happy pills all of the time. She's been my friend for over 26 years. I think I've seen her "irritated" once. I can't even call it mad because she wasn't yelling - just complaining. Anyway, she can always steer me towards the road to "positivity" and make me feel better.

Thanks for the opportunity:-)
