Four square !!

I Made this set of 2" blocks for my Husband David, This Valentines will be our 21st Anniversary. And it gets harder every year to find a gift for him. This year I chose to make something from the heart.

Each side has a different look, all unified by the chocolate chip, close to cocoa, and very vanilla color scheme. a little splash of riding hood red for some spice! These colors match my house so they will be right at home, and displayed all year.

Trust me when I tell you there a lot of four letter words...not all of them are "romantic" so if you make this project , be creative if you run out of "good" words!

I used matte modge podge to apply the designer paper & the chipboard letters. Gold embossing powder gives these blocks a shimmery touch. Just right for a little bit of bling.

The cakeplate was an antique market find, Im not sure how "antique" it is but it took a while to clean the delicate lace edge. I printed the word LOVE onto white cardstock and punched out with my scallop circle punch, layered it on a 2" black circle got out my handy dandy cropadile (best tool ever) and inserted these pink textile gromments leftover from a sewing project, ran some ribbon through the lace and threaded the letters under the stand. It came out so pretty, and greeted my friends with a message as they walked into the room.
Yes Those are real bottle tops!
Dont be timid about recycling interesting objects to give them a new life, punch out some cardstock circles, add some hardware and presto twisto youve got yourself a cool new element for any project!
I really like the look of a multi media project, so many textures and colors, it begs to not only be looked at but to be touched as well. I think you could make a many blocks as you can find words for, just grad your dictionary...remember that big heavy book filled with definitions, you had to open it and search for a word,no keyboard attached! Those were the good old days.

I hope these four squares have inspired you to take another look at blocks, these are all grown up but ready to play. Visit me again soon, Easter time is coming and this bunny is gonna' get hopping!
